Rin stomped away from the stream leaving Jaken with all of the dirty dishes. She was angry and she had let the little green imp know it. If the tongue-lashing she’d given him didn’t show her ire then the two lumps she left on his head surely did the trick.
As she marched toward the clearing where they had set up camp she was surprised to see that Lord Sesshoumaru had returned. She ceased her tirade, straightened her clothing and tried her best to remove the scowl from her face.
“I assure you all of that was nothing more than a waste of time. I know you are upset so come, tell your Lord what troubles you.”
As tempting as that was Rin hesitated. It wasn’t often that Lord Sesshoumaru opened the floor for conversation so part of her was elated. In all of the years she had been following him she could probably count on one hand the times this had happened. However, considering the subject matter she wished he had simply resumed his normal routine of sitting quietly by the fire listening for trouble.
Knowing that he was waiting she stepped forward and tried to find words that wouldn’t be a lie but would afford her some dignity still yet. It seemed this was a lost cause. Therefore, with the blunt truth as her only recourse she spoke.
“Jaken said that regardless of the fact I am now an adult that…that I am still far too young for you to even spare a second glance.”
The intense look in those amber eyes sent a shiver up her spine she didn’t try to fight. Those eyes have always been able to make her react in ways that took her years to understand. Once she understood it her goal became to be someone…a woman he would notice. To have Jaken tell her it was pointless had earned the imp quite the headache.
"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
Stunned she simply looked at him.
“Do you care about the difference in our years.”
She still couldn’t speak so she shook her head no.
“Very well then. You should have realized by now that the last person to know the mind of this Sesshoumaru is my bumbling retainer. Now come, we shall be spending the night away from camp. I don’t plan on leaving you with any further doubts.”
