Title: My Gift in You
Fandom: FMA
Pairing: Ed/Al
Word Count: 641
As Al watched his brother slowly pack his bags for his trip tomorrow something in the pit of his stomach churned and dropped. He didn’t want Ed to go. He hated himself for feeling the way he did. Winry was a wonderful young woman and their lifelong friend. He should feel happy that they want to be together.
…but he didn’t, not at all, if anything he was hurt and angry.
“Are you sure you won’t come with me Aru? Pinako and Winry will be worried about you if they know you’re here in Central alone, especially Winry.”
“She’ll get over it I’m sure,” Al replied in a clipped tone a bit more harshly than he intended. Even he cringed at how it sounded.
Ed stopped what he was doing and regarded his brother with serious golden eyes Al couldn’t meet.
“Alright Aru what’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong Brother.”
“Sure I’ve only known you since before you were born. I’d have no clue when you were upset.”
“I’m not upset!”
Ed folded his arms over his chest and arched an eyebrow at Al. Al turned his back on Ed and walked over to the bedroom window, “Think whatever you want brother just finish packing.”
“In a hurry to get rid of me now? So is it me you don’t want to spend time with during the holidays?”
Al could have screamed. That was the exact opposite of what he wanted and if he hadn’t had so much pride Al would have let the tears he was biting back fall.
“Come here,” Ed said as he patted the place beside the bed he was sitting on. “Why don’t you tell me what the problem is and get it off your chest.”
Reluctantly Al sat on the bed leaving ample space between him and Ed. Ed wasn’t about to have that, he slid right over so he was sitting thigh to thigh beside Al.
“Did you have a fight with Winry?”
“No why would you think that?”
“Because you haven’t had a kind word to say in reference to her in weeks.”
Al bit his bottom lip at Ed’s reply. He hadn’t realized he’d been speaking about her like that. He hadn’t meant to badmouth her, he loved her, he really did it’s just that he loved Ed more.
When Al didn’t say anything Ed wrapped his arm around his brother’s shoulders and squeezed until Al laid his head on his shoulder. As Ed sat there caressing his arm and kissing the top of his head Al thought he’d lose his grip on his sanity.
“Tell me Aru, please. I don’t like to see you like this. If there is anything I can do you name it and consider it done. Hell it’s Christmas, name something fantastical and it’s yours. ”
Al fought with himself. He didn’t want to risk his brother’s rejection but he couldn’t go on like he was forever either. So, after a few deep breaths and steeling his nerves he said, “There is one thing I want, and I want it more than anything.”
“Name it Aru and it’s yours.”
“You.”
“What?” Ed asked sounding confused.
“All I want for Christmas is you.”
Ed pulled away from his brother and Al prepared himself for the rejection speech. However, when silence prevailed Al cautiously lifted his head and the soft smile he found on his brother’s face surprised him. However his elation faded when he realized Ed must have interpreted what he said wrong. He was about to explain but before he could open his mouth Ed was kissing him.
Soon his shocked faded, melting away leaving nothing but his long denied desire. When they finally parted Ed smirked at Al’s flushed face and said, “Your wish is my command,” as he gently pushed his brother back on the bed.
