So Challenge One coming at you guys a little late in the game.
Day One
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.
This is a tough one for me and it is at this moment I realize... I have written an actual shit ton of fics! LOL
First things first - Falling Away (Inuyasha) and Underneath it All (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Falling Away (FA) was my fist fanfic EVER.... and this is shown painfully throughout the first fifteen chapters especially as even I cringe at my still developing writing style. Despite that, to this day, I adore it and will finish it despite its hella long run full of typos and tense issues LOL. This fic not only renewed my love of writing it brought me a bevy of wonderful people I love and adore to this day (ahem)vexed_wench, mythnlynx, salomesensei, talonsage, dr_abraxas, rebukes, cheshirejin, kiramaru7, snow_fall just to name a few. It is still probably one of the most in-depth plots that has ever crossed my little mind. When I first thought of it I was like, "yeah this shouldn't take too long to move from start to finish". Little did I realize that what my computer like brain perceives as a drop in the bucket, because it just likes to distort shit like that for me, takes a lot longer to actualize with words... lol we live we learn.
Anywho... the fic itself was to pay homage to my first Slash/Yaoi/MM ship ever not only that, it was between half-brothers (Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha) so it was just a delicious delight all around to write. The two main characters had no idea how to truly interact with each other so I had to take them through that learning experience. I got to “tweak” their history and fill in the gaps and it was just fucking fun. They argued, they laughed, they kissed, shit went to hell, someone almost died, I created a being (antagonist - Entropy) that thrived on chaos, a supporting character (Tibade) that everyone including myself fell in love with, I got to expand the characters and their abilities as the grew older and grew up, love triangles, ancient prophecies and and and well shit it just turned into a much better read than I thought it'd be honestly. I really figured my pals would read it and that was all… I was wrong and that pleases the writer… the entertainer in me to no end! ^_^
Underneath it All (UIA) was my second fic first for FMA and this was my desire to tell a love story... realistic love story. Not an, oh wow look at you, you're cute, I want you with me, some random thing gets in the way but gets resolved into roses now lets ride off into the sunset story. I am an angst whore as some of you have lovingly called me so the path to this HEA or HFN must be wrought with struggle, self-discovery, drama and well angst. But on the flip side you see two people drawn to each other and coming to regard and respect each other in an array of ways they never even considered none the less hoped or wished for. I took (at the time) path of most resistance and made the much loved ladies’ man Roy Mustang the one pining for the older and lovably oblivious Ed. I love my brash foul-mouthed Ed to no end but for this fic my mind wanted him to grow up and be able to become, more than that. I didn’t want 23 year old Ed still losing his shit over someone calling him short. I also wanted to make Roy drop his guard, even if only around Ed and his lovably nosey and not dead best friend Maes. (because I just couldn’t make Maes dead in this the wound was too raw at the time LOL and to be honest I just love his interactions with Roy too much to do without the richness that is Maes Hughes). I wanted to show a slightly different Roy and a vastly different Ed. They both have scars they hide and I wanted to grab both of them by the sides of their heads and make them face that person they run away from. The one they see in their eyes when they look in the mirror… and for the most part it worked and was warmly accepted by readers. This fic is going to go places I can’t speak about yet because I’m draggin’ ass posting updates but yeah I stepped out of my comfort zone and into a plot on this one.
Damn I got long winded LOL I was in the midst of writing on the fic foranotherfmafan and I’m all in “expressive mode” ^_^ I’ll make the next entries shorter I promise!
I Passed You In The Rain – An excerpt from thefma_candiednuts verse I write with vexed_wench. In this tale you see old pain that’s swept under the rug coming back to bite all those involved. Roy wasn't healing emotionally and was still feeling guilty about past actions that had him living in a self imposed exile where his inner demons made him into a shell of the person he used to be. This was also the first time I ever wrote the Elric Brothers at odds with each other. This was no mere bickering match. Al’s misconceptions, misdirected anger and overprotective nature lead him to interfere with Ed’s life at a time where Ed was reeling from a lot of loss and pain and when his little brothers past and present interference comes to light they argue and rage with a passion only close siblings can muster.
Cloak and Dagger – This is a Jean/Ed fic about an undercover mission that reveals more than embezzlement and crooked account managers. During their time together once they assume the identities of two civilians Ed makes Jean look at not only himself but at Ed in a different light. If dealing with the mission and their clumsily discovered attraction to one another isn’t enough, they have to deal with nosy meddling coworkers and relatives once Ed accidentally reveals their relationship to everyone in a way only Ed could manage… by walking out of the shower bare assed naked and dripping wet in front the silent crowd. Everyone around them has and expresses their own opinions on the couple’s relationship much to the couple’s dismay. You have Ed and Al conversing like siblings that have made one too many assumptions about the other and ignored a few white elephants in the the room and you have Jean and Riza the pseudo siblings having to deal with being at odds with each other for the first time.
Everyday Romance – This was my exercise at honing my humor. A lighthearted take on the lives of some of the Inuyasha cast set in modern times. Focusing on Inuyasha and Bankotsu as a couple and Kouga and Miroku Proving you can teach old dogs… and wolves’ new tricks. Also a way to continue to dabble in my first fandom obsession.
Fracture Critical – An AU tale of a teenage Ed and Roy with Ed being abused by a lost to grief Hohenheim. This id a dark one that comes with warnings of trigger content. I don’t think I need to say how far out of my comfort zone this was as I had to step away from it at times due to it being so heavy.
I can't end this without at least mentioning the fics Invidia and Double Whammy so there... Day one done! Go me go!
