Peaceful.
There was no other word to describe it. The forest was still and the wind held that fading warmth with an edge of coolness that came before Fall was in full swing. Just sitting amidst the leaves on the forest floor taking it all in was peaceful. Tracking Naraku coupled with being part of a group meant not having many moments like this.
We had Shippou and his child like antics, Kagome and her talkative ways alongside Miroku who was always doing something that resulted in noise made peace a true rarity.
Inuyasha was the only one that ever sat like this with me.
Not talking, not shuffling around, with no complaining not scheming just observing and appreciating nature. We sat there so long the sun began to set yet I still wasn't ready to leave. I knew we had to but I just wasn't ready to abandon the serenity of my surroundings.
Once the sun was halfway past the horizon I looked over at him only to find him standing and looking at me.
“I know you don’t want to but we gotta make our way back.”
I sighed and nodded.
“The old hag said she was pulling out the Apple Cider tonight so at least there’s that to look forward too.”
His statement said a lot without so many words. He was no more ready to return than I was. Nevertheless, return we shall because return we must.
Peace was never a thing to be had for long.
