Hi everyone!
I wanted to let everyone know that there is a community wide blackout going on this Friday on LiveJournal in order to demonstrate that LiveJournal is a content driven site. This strike is being held in response to two things (that I can immediately tell of); the censorship of some rather controversial user interests that appear on the LiveJournal user interest page and the changes that SUP is making since buying LiveJournal from SixApart (such as no longer allowing "basic" accounts for free users--that's right, ads everywhere). The censorship issue has vague (but familiar) ties all the way back to the Warriors For Innocence fiasco, where they worked with LJ and targeted certain journals having to do with fanfiction, sexual preference, and other interests chosen purely out of personal bias.
I urge everyone on LJ to help with this strike and especially anyone who was targeted in the WFI fiasco (which would include fandom communities like Hana Yori Dango).
Further information, along with a time zone table can be found here. The strike is scheduled to start at Greenwich Mean Time so it may not be your local time. Please feel free to cross post this as many places as you can on LJ so that the word gets out and we can show SUP that LiveJournal is successful because it is a content driven site and that censoring such content is harmful to LiveJournal not only as a community but as a business.
