luxquintessence who said Can I also say how wonderfully you write this polyamorous relationship? Your OT3 is the only one that I've read that seems believable and viable long-term. So this inspired my muse to toss some more reality into to the mix.

For the three sleep deprived men at 963 Kolme Boulevard life sucks at the moment.
It sucks so hard they can’t even put it into words.
All three of three of them are in the kitchen and purposefully moving around each other like wraiths. Not speaking, not touching, not smiling… not being them and it sucks. Sure they have had disagreements before, but this was different. It was no mere disagreement. Whatever the hell that happened between them last night could only be described as a fight.
Roy was a culture buff through and through. He loved museums, historical tours, plays, musicals, operas and the like. He knew it wasn’t really Ed and Russell’s thing so he only asked them to join him once in a blue moon. The problem was that blue moon was last night.
Unfortunately, Ed was kept at a crime scene with Maes and Russell had gotten wrapped up in his studies at the library. When Ed got home Roy was sitting at the kitchen table. He immediately started moving around making coffee to go with the stack of notes he still needed to go over when he noticed Roy’s silence. Turning around, Ed also noticed Roy was in his tux. To be frank he was sitting at the table, dressed to the nines looking good enough to eat until Ed saw the expression on his face.
When Ed asked Roy why he was so dressed up his response of, for no reason at all apparently, made Ed’s blood run cold. His tone was dark, his mood was bleak and all it took was golden eyes falling on the three slips of paper in front of Roy for Ed to realize how badly he and Russell had fucked up.
Before Ed could gather his wits Russell came in the side door carrying an armload of books. He started to breeze right through the kitchen on his way to the den when Ed stopped him.
“Russ hold up a minute.”
“Why?”
“We forgot something.”
“We did?”
“We did,” Ed replied as he looked at Roy then down at the table where three tickets to The Tragedy of Othello sat fanned out on the table.
Before Ed could spit out the apology on the tip of his tongue Russell asked, “Can we catch it another night?”
“I’m sure we could but we had tickets and plans for tonight,” Roy replied in a tone that was a perfect mix of hurt and displeasure.
For once Russell pulls an Ed, letting logic take over his speech and said, “Well tonight is shot so it looks like it’s either another night or nothing.”
“As the person that stood outside the theater for almost two hours waiting on the two of you I am well aware of how shot tonight is.”
The curt response startled Russell making his eyes go wide before his brows furrowed. He was about to say something else when Ed cut in with, “No need to take his head off Roy. We’re sorry we missed meeting you at the theater but there’s nothing we can do about that right now.”
“Oh, so I’m supposed to be fine with how flippant you both seem about it? Not to mention completely ready to dismiss something that’s was important to me?”
“I don’t see why you’re getting so bent out of shape over this. It was just a play,” Russell said as he leaned back on the counter and folded his arms over his chest.
“I’ll remember that the next time you want me to it through a two hour lecture on photosynthesis,” Roy fired back.
“I don’t think he meant it that way Roy,” Ed said as he resumed making coffee. “You seem to be overreacting. This isn’t the first time life has kept the three of us from doing something we’ve planned.”
“And the fact that this is more of a trend instead of an isolated incident is supposed to make me feel better?”
“No that isn’t what I meant I…”
“Then by all means feel free to explain it to me because I must be too dense to wrap my brain around it!”
“Take it easy, Roy.”
“I don’t want to take it easy!”
“Well I don’t want to be shouted at,” Russell replied his own voice rising to match Roy’s.
“Oh we’re back to what you want so soon, why am I not surprised.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Guys chill out,” Ed said as he grabbed three mugs out of the cabinet. “This bickering isn’t solving anything.”
Unfortunately, Russell was already as worked up as Roy was, “So you’re the voice reason now?”
“Someone has to be, neither one of you appear to be up to the task.”
“Are you trying to tell me that it was wrong of me to say something about his shouting?”
“No but shouting back is not the way to do it.”
“I don’t need you to defend me, Edward.”
Ed grit his teeth at Roy’s use of his full name and said, “That wasn’t what I was trying to do. I was just trying to keep this from escalating into an argument.”
“There’s nothing to argue over. You two have made your point crystal clear.”
“What are you whining about now?”
“Whining? Is that what it’s called when I have a grievance? Whining?”
“It is when it over a play that’s going to be at the theater for another week!”
Ed took a deep breath and tried to focus on the task at hand and not the two people shouting behind him. He filled three mugs with coffee, grabbed two of them and headed for the table.
“How about we all sit down, have a cup of coffee and try to talk about this in a calm and…”
“I don’t want to be calm!” Roy shouted.
“And I don’t want any coffee!” Russell added.
At the end of his rope Ed snapped, “Fine fuck it then,” he said as he slammed both mugs down hard enough to spill most of the contents. “The two of you can sit here and shout at each other all damn night for all I care. I’m done with it!”
With that said Ed stomped across the kitchen, opened the basement door and slammed it behind him. When they came out of the daze Ed’s brisk exit had put them in they each somberly retreated to different corners of the house as well.
When morning came three tired bodies finally made it into the kitchen where this silent dance of depression began. Not being able to take it anymore, Roy flopped down in a seat and said, “I… I’m sorry for overreacting last night.”
“I’m sorry for downplaying and dismissing something that was important to you,” Russell said as he sat down across from Roy.
“I’ll have you two know that last night was the shittiest night’s sleep I’ve had in ages. My back hurts from lying on that so-called couch down there. My automail was freezing when I woke up this morning and to top it all off, the coffee we didn’t drink last night was the last we had.”
“You’re a real team player Ed.”
“I wasn’t done,” Ed said as he plopped down between the two, “I’m sorry too… for not knocking some sense into you both before I left the room last night.”
Roy laughed and Russell smiled at him and said, “I wish you had. I didn’t get any sleep at all last night.”
“Me either,” Roy added.
“Ditto,” Ed said as looked at the cold coffee left in the pot longingly. “I’ve got a plan.
It’s Sunday so I say we all go back to bed… together. Sleep, wake up and have hard, rough, raunchy, loud and sticky makeup sex, take a shower together, sleep some more then get up, get dressed go get three more tickets to the play, buy coffee on the way home then strip down in the living room and drink wine in front of the fireplace until someone initiates more sex and we all fall asleep in an exhausted, sated pile of twisted limbs in the middle of the floor.”
“As… as great as all that sounds,” Roy began as he fought not to picture all the things Ed just listed in his plan, “don’t you think we need to talk about this?”
“Ok fine I’ll sum it all up for you two but pay attention. I don’t want to repeat myself, I’m sleep deprived and we have no coffee.”
When both sets of eyes focused on him Ed began.
“Ok we all know Roy wasn’t pissed about the play he was upset about all the demands on our time that don’t include him and he misses us. We both know we were nimrods for not noticing that already and fixing it before it became a problem. We are all stressed out, overworked, severely lacking free time and in dire need of a vacation. Until life slows down we will try to be more mindful of everyone’s needs and have as much sex as possible because by the time we all get together it’s too late to do much else. We all sleep better with empty balls anyway so we might as well screw.”
They both stared at Ed in disbelief.
“Well am I wrong?”
“No.”
“No.”
“So what’s the problem? Sex is great stress relief and isn’t the absence of long uncomfortable conversations supposed to be one of the perks of a relationship that doesn’t involve a vagina?”
“Fair enough Ed, I’m game,” Russell said as he stood up. “What about you Roy?”
“Sounds good to me but can we modify that plan a little?”
“Sure,” Ed said as he stood and stretched, “What’s wrong with it?”
“Nothing’s wrong with it I was just wondering if we could put that stress relief into action before we go to sleep. I don’t know about you two but I’m still feeling a little wound up.”
“You know, come to think of it, you do look a little tense,” Ed said as he approached Roy, “and we do owe you a proper apology for missing the play don’t we Russ.”
“We do,” Russell agree as they advanced on Roy.
Oh what an apology they gave. Roy wouldn’t be forgetting it anytime soon.
An hour and a half later three satisfied and naked alchemists were sleeping in their usual pile in the bed no one slept in the night before. Sunday would end up being a fun day after all despite its depressing and tense beginnings. They would rest and resume Ed’s plan with vigor before sleeping once more before going about their day. It would take more than this bump in the road to undo what their love has stitched together.
They have made it through many things since their relationship began so they merely chalked this up as another notch on the belt of life.
