Ed opened eyes that felt like lead and looked into two worried faces.
He parted his lips to say something but found his voice to be gone. Startled, he tried to sit up and his world spun.
“Easy there Edo. You’re fine, just relax.”
Oh shit, something must be wrong. Roy never used that tone unless something was wrong.
“You’ve had a fever and it finally broke,” Russell said as he handed him a glass of water.
Ed took a drink and realized his throat felt like sandpaper.
“A few more days in bed and you’ll be fine.”
Days... DAYS! How long have I been out of it, Ed wondered.
“How... long...?” Ed tried but failed to ask.
“Three days and don’t worry, Al knows, we ran him out of here a few hours ago to sleep. He’s across the hall, he hasn’t left your side since he found out.”
Ed opened his mouth to to say something only to be hit with a coughing fit. When Roy reached for what was obviously a bottle of medicine Ed’s eyebrows knitted together even as he struggled to catch his breath.
“What’s... what’s that?”
“Don't worry it’s cherry flavored, it won’t gag you.”
Ed wanted to protest but the thought of having another coughing spell had him opening his mouth once Roy came at him with a spoonful of the stuff.
“Go get some rest Roy, I’ll make sure he stays put,” Russell said as he settled into the over-sized chair beside the bed.
“Try to be as nice a patient conscious as you were dead to the world and delirious,” Roy said as he kissed a sweat dampened forehead.
Ed’s scowl was as vicious as ever letting Russell and Roy know, given time he’d be just fine.
