He supposed in their eyes he was some asexual being.
A being that had no interests past work, animals and electronics.
Kain couldn’t help but snort at that thought as he motioned for the bartender to bring him another drink. Not a soda, not a beer but aged scotch on the rocks. He supposed that would be another thing that would shock them if they knew about it.
Why was Kain Fuery out drinking, thinking such jaded thoughts?
It was because his so called friends and coworkers balked at the mere thought of him getting laid. Balked then laughed. Now Kain was no sensitive soul that couldn’t take a good natured ribbing or being the butt of a joke. However, not only had he not been in the mood it was the way Breda, Havoc and Mustang always treated him when it came to such things… like a dirty joke would soil his virginal ears or a stiff drink would be too much for someone like him.
The real kicker came in the form of Ed.
Not that Ed himself had done anything, but when it became ok for someone six years his junior to be included in their inner circle, it really got to Kain. Them falling silent when he entered the room and Havoc nudging Ed until he followed suit, did it. It made something in his brain snap and before he could stop his tongue he’d told them all off and left the building slamming the door behind him.
When he thought of his own words he cringed. He hadn’t meant to be so harsh but the pure look of shock on all of their faces may well be worth them never forgiving him. He was sure his declaration of how he may not be a charming man whore like Mustang or able to confuse women into his bed by talking circles around them like Breda, but he was damn certain he got more action than Havoc, had burned a serious bridge.
Groaning he knocked back the last of his scotch and sat the glass down none to gently on the bar. His only consolation was that it was Friday and he had all weekend to figure out how to face them on Monday. He was deciding between hitting on the redhead in the booth behind him and drink number three when a voice said, “I’ll have a gin and tonic and get this guy another of whatever he’s drinking.”
Looking to his right Kain saw Ed taking a seat on the stool beside him and shook his head.
“What are you doing here?”
“Looking for you,” Ed said before taking a nice long drink out of his glass, “your little speech before you left the office put you high up on my favorite people list.”
Kain grinned before pressing the refilled glass to his lips, “How pissed are they?”
“I don’t think they’ve picked their jaws up off the floor yet, but once I thought about it they had it coming.”
“You have no idea.”
“I’m sure I don’t but I think you cleared it up for everyone. If I were you I wouldn’t worry they’re big boys they will live.”
“True, but I still wish I hadn’t let my anger get the best of me.”
“I bet I know what will cheer you up.”
“What?”
“Black curly hair, nice hips, blue eyes and there’s two of them.”
“Sisters?”
“Even better, twins,” Ed said as a wicked grin slid over his mouth.
“Ever wonder if twins would be identical in every way?”
“Only one way to find out.”
“I’m definitely not at the top of my game tonight. Not really in the mood to get worked up for nothing.”
“Well if that’s the only thing holding you back,” Ed said as a warm hand came to rest on Kain’s thigh, “I’m sure we can entertain ourselves if we strike out.”
Kain could feel his own grin painting his face, “I’d be stupid to turn down a win, win situation now wouldn’t I?”
“I think I could get use to this Kain Fuery.”
“You and me both Ed… you and me both.”
