This kind of reporting is all over the news today.

Whenever a news story sounds slightly boring, they add irrelevant details-- the more shocking, the better, kind of like a mad-lib.

Here are some absurd headlines I just made up, using this algorithm:

"Popular cheerleader murdered"

"Recent divorcee dies in car reck"

"Mother of 2 sentenced to three years for embezzlement"

"Child of convicted drug-dealer diagnosed with rare cancer"

"Blonde haired beauty runs for Prime Minister" (this one is real, Yulia Tymoshenko in the Ukraine)

I agree with dragon. It's nothing new with the media but at least it was portrayed in a positive light. That's not always the case. On one hand, I hate exploitation, but on the other, better to have it there so that hopefully people can become acclimated to the wide variety of different lifestyles and maybe not be so quick to judge negatively.

ETA: Comment fail. Meant to reply to the post, not to Lux's comment.

Typical media. Anything left or right of the imposed norm will not only get noted but highlighted.

Though it is nice to see it portrayed somewhat positively, even if it doesn't really make sense. Poly crime-fighting powers FTW!

This happens all the time, pointing out sexuality when it isn't called for. It's social engineering, whether one feels good, bad or indifferent about it. That's what media does best.
