Title: For A Cause: A Smokeless Flame

Genre: Romance/Comedy/Horror - AU
Characters/Pairing: Roy/Ed
Word Count: 300

“What do you propose we do now, Ed?”
“We go home.”
“WHAT! We just stroll home like nothing has even happened?”
“No we go home because we can’t stay out here in the open not knowing what the fuck either one of us might do in the next moment,” Ed snapped in response. “If any of the old folklore is true we’re a danger to everyone now.”
“So the answer is hiding?”
“No the answer is Hughes followed by Kain and Sheizka.”
Roy stopped walking and stared at Ed.
“Look we can’t go roaming around to research our problem. We need a plan and we need someone not twisted in the head to make one.”
“When did you become the logical one in our relationship?”
“The instant I realized I was seriously considering snapping your neck earlier.”
That response was a showstopper. Roy looked at Ed once more, really looked at him and realized under all of that bravado Ed was afraid.
“Ed this probably isn’t as bad as it seems.”
Ed snorted and kept walking. He wasn’t buying whatever Roy was trying to sell him. He was fighting the desire to run into the night and shred anything that got in his path. In his opinion, even if it wasn’t as bad as it seemed it was still fucked up… royally fucked up.
Ed was silent for the rest of the trip. Once they got home Roy couldn’t take it anymore, “We’ll call Hughes first thing in the morning, okay?”
“Sure, fine,” was the mumbled reply.
Roy pulled Ed into his arms and as he fought the increasing urge to do his lover harm he sighed. Ed wasn’t alone.
Roy was afraid too, petrified was more like it and there wasn’t a damn thing he could do about it.
