Hughes couldn’t believe Roy had overslept. They’d planned this early morning trip weeks ago.
Tired of ringing the doorbell and getting no answer Hughes walked in, fully prepared to lecture his lazy friend. He was about to climb the stairs when a soft, “shhhh” was heard from the den.
Walking that way Hughes’ lecture died on his lips at what he saw.
Both in robes, draped across Roy’s lap, were Ed and Russell.
“They wanted to be up to see me off,” Roy whispered with a smile. “They didn’t make it.”
Maes decided he could wait a few minutes more.
