I love strong Ed, and yes I agree that the only things he fears are bad things happening to Al or any of his friends.
Watching the anime (either one) proves that he's a strong character so it's only right that people write him like that :)
Hikari wrote Ed/Roy/Riza for nano one year. BDSM where Ed was the master. I loved it so much <3
You should totally finish that AU, I would even forgo sleep to read it :P
