Sunday comes around and I decide to take Kain up on his invite to go fishing. There was something beautifully numbing about mindless tasks. Bait and tackle in one hand, rod and reel in the other I knock on Kain's door.

Imagine my surprise when Ed opens it.

So here I sit on the shore of Central's biggest lake with the last person I wanted to see. He'd be easier to dislike if he wasn't so blasted nice, comical, witty and all that other crap I sucked at.

Damn…  his jokes are funny too.

I'll try despising him again tomorrow.

I'm picking up my sandwich to take a bite when I hear, "Is this seat taken?"

Looking up, I find Central's most sought after bachelor also known as my boss, standing by my table holding a tray of food.

Even though I'd rather eat pathetically alone than with him, I can't very well tell him to get lost can I?

I offer him the seat and before he can even get settled a redheaded woman with hips to die for is batting her eyelashes at him and asking for directions.

Must be nice to have the world at your feet.

The next week flies by until Thursday arrives and the shit hits the fan. Two former state alchemists are found dead and guess who the Führer picks to send with Maes to investigate it.

That's right, me and Roy.

Deciding fate had it in for me I snatch my coat off the rack ready to leave the office. I don't get five steps before I feel a hand around my wrist.

The heat from Roy's hand is unreal. I can tell he's speaking but I don't hear a word. With no other options I nod.

Smooth Elric, real fucking smooth.

Maes was waiting for us in a car. Ed slides in the backseat and I follow. I know this confuses him because as I'm asking Hughes questions I can feel Ed giving me odd looks.

The crime scene was gruesome and the fact that I don't do this often shows when my stomach rolls causing me to have to step away.

I feel a hand on my back as I try not to lose my breakfast.

"Thanks Maes."

"If I can get him to stop laughing, I'll send him over."

Ed leaves without another word.

I feel like an asshole.
