Kain loved winter.

When Mother Nature decorated the city in a blanket of snow he was one happy man. A man that was too busy looking up at the snow covered trees to pay attention to where he was walking.
He smacked into something and landed flat on his rear.

“You ok?”

Kain straightened his glasses, looked up into marigold eyes and replied, “Yeah, sorry about that.”

“No problem. Can I interest you in a sticky bun? I have half a dozen.”

“Sounds good to me.”

They walked down the snowy street towards Ed’s apartment. They had buns to eat.

The next time Kain ran into Ed he was leaving the market with his arms full and a plan. He’d decided to make a special cider for the upcoming holidays. Ed grabbed one of his bags and asked him if he was expecting family.

When Kain said no that most of what he had was for a cider recipe Ed grew curious and asked him if he wanted some help. Kain thought that sounded better than making it alone and told Ed he was more than welcome to help.

Even if it was a disaster they would have fun trying.

Kain was leaving work on a Friday afternoon and instead of feeling happy about the upcoming weekend he was feeling a little blue. Not sure why he tried to shake the feeling but noticing the leaves peaking out through the snow didn’t help his mood one bit. That meant in a few days time the snow would be gone and Central would return to its former state of gloominess.

Kain was sitting on a park bench looking out at the frozen pond when someone asked, “Why the long face?”

Kain turned and asked Ed when he got back into town.

Ed said it was last night, well more like some wretched hour in the morning, before launching into how he thought Mustang still occasionally got a kick out of sending him on bogus missions. Without realizing it Kain had ended up following Ed back to his flat. As the blond dug around in his pockets for his keys Kain found himself admiring the wreath on the door.

“Where did you get that?”

“I made it,” Ed said as he pushed the door open.

The sight that greeted Kain left him speechless. Apparently Ed was a big fan of the holidays.
