COMPUTER ISSUES *cries*

Ok so last night around 3 am the PC decided it wanted to do updates so I let it do it's thing and went to bed.... 11:45 this morning it was still trying to finish O.o. After waiting for and hour and it was still on the same screen trying to finish something for google chrome (I think) I restarted my laptop.

When it started back up it went downhill from there. First it would not recognize my wireless internet connection.

Then it wouldn't open certain programs like MS word *cries more*

now it won't start unless its in safe mode....

I have tried several system restore points and no dice...anyone have any clue?  HELP!

I wish I had more knowledge about computers.

Have you tried to run your antivirus program and perform a Registry fix?

Eeek. Not good. Sounds like malware. If you can get to this website (and run XP service pack 2 or higher, Vista, or Win 7) go to
housecall.trendmicro.com and run a free system scan--I do tech support for networks for a living and Housecall rocks. You also might have file corruptions---you may have no choice but to reinstall windows from the disk---if you don't feel comfortable about reinstalling, you need to get it done by a pro. When in doubt, don't risk it.

I really wish I could help but you are way past the point where I would have marched it down to my computer guy :-/ Computers mostly confuse the Hell out of me.

I hope you get it fixed soon <33

Do you have any back-ups? If you use a Windows OS, your computer should automatically save a restore point before starting any updates. Here's a few FAQs that may help:

If you use Windows XP

If you use Vista

I hope one of those helps!

I wish I could help (looks like B gave you some good advice, thank goodness) but I know dick all about this sort of thing. But yeah, it sounds like you picked up some cooties from somewhere. D:

I hope you can get it fixed soon!

[livejournal.com profile] binaryalchemist sounds like she really knows her stuff. Another good online scanner that I got from [livejournal.com profile] rebukes and use all the time is http://www.f-secure.com/en_US/security/security-lab/tools-and-services/online-scanner/index.html Provided you can get on the internet, that is. :(

So sorry, Sis, I got nuthin' beyond that. *hugs on you*

It's always possible that the update had your computer 'phone home' to Microsoft and it could have thought your software was pirated and shut you down. I had a valid copy and their warning said it was invalid. All the sudden, my programs began to cease functioning properly and continued to deteriorate until my brother did a system restore from the restore disc. I never do microsoft updates anymore and plan to switch to Ubuntu.

Binaryalchemist gave you some good advice. There was an issue with my dad's desktop and I talked to a friend (BS in Computer Science) and he had me install and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in safe mode and it fixed the issue. I also installed and ran Glary Utilities, which is a registry cleaner/fixer/etc. I don't know if you're able to do any of those, but they might help you. The only other thing I can think of if nothing else has worked would be to do a full reinstallation of whatever Windows you're using. I hope it gets fixed soon!~Sophia
