Prompt 263 1st place - Gracia FMA fic contest

It was quite the spread.

Meatloaf, made with seasoned breadcrumbs, fresh rolls and mashed potatoes, extra lumpy, heavy on the butter. There was also steamed asparagus, because every meal needed something green. Then last, but not least, a bottle of wine because he always said, “You, my Love, have made the ambrosia so I’ll bring to our table the nectar.”

As she remembered those often-said words, a smile graced her face even as her bottom lip trembled.

She shouldn’t do this to herself but she couldn’t help it. Once a month, every month, for years she had made this meal. It had taken a while to perfect it but once she did it, it only got better each time… at least that’s what he would tell her.

Despite the passage of years, she could still see the excitement on his face as the eve of any month’s third Thursday drew near and the house filled with familiar aromas.

As she sat down, her emotions got the best of her and the first of many tears trickled down her face. She should invite someone over but she just couldn’t bring herself to share this. This was their meal. Elysia would be away and they would dine together, just the two of them.

Yes, it was quite the spread.

A spread she couldn’t stop herself from preparing just as she couldn’t bring herself to eat it alone.

Popping open the wine, Gracia Hughes filled two glasses, and alone, she’d drink them both.
